The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is proud to welcome John Haupert, FACHE, president and CEO of Grady Health System, as its newest Board of Public Health member.
Haupert brings to the board more than 20 years of experience in managing and improving hospital operations. He is excited to join DPH Commissioner Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., in developing public health programs that lead to improved health outcomes in Georgia.
“I have admired the exemplary work of Commissioner Fitzgerald from afar for many years,” Haupert said. “I am now looking forward to supporting her work and expanding the reach of the Department’s public health programs in Georgia.”
In subsequent years, Haupert served in multiple leadership roles including executive vice president and chief operating officer of Parkland Health and Hospital System; president of Methodist Charlton Medical Center; and executive vice president for corporate services and business development for Methodist Health System.
With such an extensive array of professional health experiences, Haupert looks forward to contributing his expertise to the board surrounding the role of hospital providers in public health.
“I have worked my entire career in safety net, academic health care systems,” Haupert said. “These health systems play a deeply meaningful role in driving public health improvements across the U.S.”
Beyond his role as a hospital executive, Haupert has executed a diverse range of public health initiatives for topics including Ebola preparedness, HIVS/AIDS, hypertension, diabetes and maternal and infant health outcomes.
“I have a deep concern about the abnormally high rates of infant mortality and maternal deaths in Georgia,” said Haupert. “I’m especially looking forward to working with Commissioner Fitzgerald to roll out the Department’s initiatives that address these issues.”
Along with his professional accomplishments, Haupert is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a recipient of its Regent’s Leadership Award.
