On the evening of December 6, the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services recognized those who had generously contributed to their success over the past 20 years. Lloyd Hofer, M.D., District Health Director, and Connie Russell, District Program Director, for the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments (GNRHD) were honored with a Community Rock Star award.

The Gwinnett Coalition defined a Community Rock Star as “someone who demonstrates through their consistent and persistent actions that volunteerism and philanthropy are at the forefront of their list of priorities rather than an afterthought."

Over the years, Dr. Hofer and Ms. Russell have been an integral part of the Gwinnett Coalition, with each serving as chair and co-chair of several committees and task forces. Dr. Hofer currently serves on the board of directors and the executive board, and Ms. Russell serves on the strategic planning management team.

The partnership between the Gwinnett Coalition and the GNRHD is a natural outcome of the similar missions and visions for the two organizations. The vision of the GNRHD is to protect and improve the health of our community. The mission of the Gwinnett Coalition is to facilitate collaboration that improves the well being of the community.

Currently, the GNRHD is working in partnership with the Gwinnett Coalition and Gwinnett Medical Center to complete a community health assessment for Gwinnett County. Once the assessment is complete, the group will create a community health implementation plan and work collaboratively to implement the plan.

The Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services (Gwinnett’s Family Connection agency) is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the health and human service needs of everyone in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
