App of the Week: Healthy Target

October 14, 2014

WebMD has launched a new program in its iOS app called Healthy Target that works with activity trackers like Fitbit and Jawbone, as well as glucometers and wireless scales, to aggregate and pull in health data.

But, WebMD's update offers something slightly different: while so many trackers and apps monitor how many steps you've taken or hours slept, many don't explain what that data means for you.

Healthy Target gives you personalized information and suggestions to improve your lifestyle. For example, if you don't get enough sleep, the app will inform you how that affects your heart rate and mood and then provides actionable tips to address the issue. WebMD pushes out medical articles and feedback related to each user's activity log. It also offers a weekly report that recaps your progress and gives motivation too.

Although the program was designed for people with chronic conditions such as diabetes or obesity, it's also for anyone who wants to lose weight, be more active, control blood sugar, feel better and sleep better — these six goals can be programmed within the app and tracked for progress. Users can set their goals to easy, medium and hard levels and make adjustments when needed.

While users can manually input data — such as steps taken or blood sugar levels — the real advantage is that it syncs with certain wearables, so it can automatically store data, as well as give medical insights.
