Learn More About Heart Disease
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the single leading clinical cause of death in Georgia, accounting for more than 20,000 deaths a year, or about 1 in 5 deaths overall. A significant proportion of these deaths are premature and preventable.
In addition to costing the state $7 billion in direct and indirect costs, CVD complicates a variety of comorbidities such as hypertension and obesity, and can even impact pregnant women and infant health.
As a Million Hearts participant, DPH is forging innovative community partnerships that increase access to vital resources that help Georgians effectively manage and prevent heart disease, and ultimately attain more positive health outcomes.
Join DPH by being one in a million hearts. Take the Million Hearts pledge to demonstrate your commitment to implementing more positive health behaviors that support a heart-healthy life.
