DPH Tai Chi in the Park

DPH and Atlanta Downtown/Woodruff Park offer Tai Chi every Tuesday and Friday (weather permitting) at 11am starting again in September. Classes are approximately 45 minutes and are located at the water wall on the north side of Woodruff Park (near the GP building). No advance registration needed. Classes are open to the community so please bring friends. This is a "no sweat" class so you may come in your work attire, but feel free to change into exercise attire.

Definition of Classes

AF WWE (Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease):  This 6-week program is designed for low mobility movers, particularly those with arthritis.  Gradually progress your walking level by learning the proper ways to manage pain, exercise and incorporate nutrition.  Those with other known diseases, obesity,  or pregnant women who need a lower intensity workout are welcome to attend.

Body Flex: An all over high intensity strength training class using a plate loaded barbell and other resistance guaranteed to build endurance.  Designed for all levels.

Bootcamp: A high-energy, metabolic boosting workout that combines cardiovascular intervals with body weight resistance training exercises. This class is NOT designed for beginning movers.

Dance Fit: Jam to hip-hop and R & B music while performing dance based moves.  This moderate to high-intensity workout can be modified for all levels.  Come prepared to sweat and get your groove on!

INSANITY®: After becoming one of the top-selling extreme home fitness programs of all time, the abridged, “signature” INSANITY® experience is now available at the gym! Taught by a Certified INSANITY® Instructor, this program uses MAX Interval Training, which combines maximum-intensity exercises with short periods of rest. There will be modified exercises demonstrated in every class. It’s time to “Dig Deep”!

INSANITY® + PiYo Strength®: After a 25 minutes INSANITY® class, we transition into a PiYo Strength® class, which is the perfect blend of Pilates/Yoga, sports stretch, dance stretch, conditioning, athletics and more. This is a stretch workout for those who want more than just flexibility; they want to burn calories and build muscle! This dynamic fusion workout is easy on the joints, yet delivers strength, balance, agility and flexibility in one unique calorie burning workout.

Kickboxing: This class is designed for those who like a challenge, but can be modified for new movers. Get strong and burn calories through upper and lower body punching and kicking drills. A total body workout!

Legs, Butts n' Guts (LBG): Tighten up those legs and buns!  This class targets strengthening those problem areas through resistance and corrective exercises.

Tai Chi in the Park (Arthritis Foundation): Come as you are to this class designed for relaxation, centering and refocusing.  Using the Sun methodology of Tai Chi, we will work balance and flexibility while performing moving meditation.

Yoga: Improve circulation, flexibility and energy through this foundational yoga class which combines relaxation with soft tissue lengthening and strengthening. Great for all levels!

Zumba: Come get your groove on. No experience necessary to shake your hips in this fun-filled class that get s your heart rate up through a fusion of latin, world and hip-hop dance moves. This class is for everyone!

Zumba Toning: This class incorporates light hand weights for optimal toning in a Zumba-based dance class!  Appropriate for all levels, this class is a high energy party!

Please bring water and a towel or mat with you to all group exercises classes!
