Wed, 11/13/2013 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm
2 Peachtree Street, NW
5th Floor Overflow Conference Room
Atlanta, GA 30303

Purpose:  Every day, about 100 people die from drug overdoses in the United States. The majority of these deaths are caused by prescription drug misuse or abuse.  Among states, particularly in the Southeast, Georgia has one of the lowest death rates from prescription drugs.  However, the state of Georgia borders several states with higher rates and policies which may be allowing prescription drug misuse to proliferate.

Almost every state has passed legislation aimed to prevent prescription drug abuse. This meeting will address the current state of prescription drug abuse prevention strategies and policies.

This unique opportunity brings together legislators, executive branch leaders, staff, public and private organizations and prescription drug abuse experts.  Dr. Fitzgerald will host a discussion with participants regarding the problem of prescription drug abuse and possible solutions unique to Georgia. At the end of the meeting, participants are expected to have a greater understanding of the problem, partners in the continuum of the problem, what is happening in Georgia, expert resources, current efforts, and the direction for prescription drug abuse prevention goals for our state.
