Dr. Mercer has been a member of the Georgia Board of Public Health since 2012 and served as Chairman from 2014 to 2015.

Dr. Mercer serves on the WellStar/MCG Health Board. She previously served on the Augusta University Health System Board from 2017-2023 and chaired the Quality Committee.

Dr. Mercer is a past president of the Georgia OB/GYN Society and former chair and vice chair of the Georgia section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She graduated from the University of Georgia Summa Cum Laude and earned her medical degree from The Medical College of Georgia, being inducted into AOA Honorary at MCG. She completed her residency at Emory University, serving as Chief Resident in her fourth year.

After serving the greater Athens area for 39 years, Dr. Mercer retired from private practice in December 2021. She is married to Thomas Rodgers, and they have two children and four grandchildren.
