PDMP Integration FAQs

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is pleased to announce a statewide initiative to integrate the Georgia Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) data into approved electronic health records (EHR) in Georgia, using Bamboo Health’s PMP Gateway service.

  • What is Georgia PMP AWARxE?

Georgia PMP AWARxE is the software user interface Bamboo Health developed and deployed for Georgia PDMP access.

  • What is the difference between PMP and PDMP?

Different states use different terminology for this database, but both terms, PMP (Prescription Monitoring Program) and PDMP (Prescription Drug Monitoring Program) refer to the same system.

  • What is EHR integration?

Georgia DPH has partnered with Bamboo Health to provide this integration option to all prescribing healthcare providers in Georgia utilizing the PMP Gateway service. Integrating PDMP data within an EHR and Pharmacy Management System provides a streamlined clinical workflow for providers. The integration eliminates the need for providers to have to log in separately to the PDMP. Currently, of note, Georgia has PDMP data-sharing agreements with nineteen states (AL, AK, DE, FL, LA, ME, MA, MS, MO, MT, NY, NC, ND, OH, SC, TN, TX, VA, WY) as well as District of Columbia, so this data will be available through PMP Gateway, your integrated PDMP interface.

  • Where do I begin the process of integrating the PDMP into my EHR?

The decision maker (primary point of contact) at your healthcare entity will begin the process by creating an Account in the Customer Connect Portal and following the on-screen prompts to gather the needed information for your integration request. Additional information regarding the process is found starting on Page 5 of the Georgia Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) AWARxE Integration Welcome Packet.

  • What product is being used to conduct the integration?

Bamboo Health PMP Gateway is being used to conduct the integration.

  • Is there funding available from the State of Georgia for the integration process?

Georgia DPH will cover the PMP Gateway fees (both license and implementation) for EHR and pharmacy management software compatible with the integration process.

  • Will all prescribers at my facility will have access to the PDMP link inside the EHR?

No. Only those with valid PDMP system accounts will have access to the PDMP.

  • Will the login date and time along with the patient record checks be tracked as required by Georgia law if prescribers access information through the EHR?

Yes, login information is tracked and recorded.

  • How do I know if my EHR vendor is integrated with Bamboo Health’s PMP Gateway service?

The integration request process in the Customer Connect Portal will prompt you to select your EHR software vendor. If your software is not integrated, you will be notified via Customer Connect during the sign-up process. If your vendor is not integrated, have them reach out to Bamboo Health Support to request API specifications to determine the level of effort and how long the implementation will take.

  • What is the advantage of EHR integration with the PDMP?

Having the Georgia PDMP and 20 other PDMPs across the nation integrated directly into the clinical flow within your EHR will save you valuable time by streamlining the process of checking your patients’ records and will serve as an additional incentive to increase use of this system. Although Georgia shares data with the PDMPs of the listed states, a separate request for integration with that state, territory, or system must be submitted.

  • How do I obtain the status of my form after submittal?

Upon fully executed EULA and receipt of all completed documents, a Bamboo Health Project Manager will contact you or your EHR vendor to discuss next steps.
