Fentanyl and Analogs

Brief Description

This screening method uses a high-resolution mass spectrometer to detect 22 fentanyl and fentanyl analogs in urine, whole blood, and plasma. The compounds detected are 3-Methylfentanyl, 4-ANPP, 4-Fluorofentanyl, Acetyl fentanyl, 4’-Methylacetylfentanyl, Acryl fentanyl, Benzyl fentanyl, Butyryl fentanyl, Carfentanil, Cyclopropyl fentanyl, Furanyl fentanyl, Fentanyl, Methoxyacetylfentanyl, p-Fluorobutyrylfentanyl, Remifentanil, ß-Hydroxythiofentanyl, U-48800, U-49900, Valerylfentanyl, Norcarfentanil, Norfentanyl and U-47700.

Specimen Collection

  • Urine:
    • Collect ≥ 20 mL. Acceptable containers for urine include sterile urine cups, 50mL- polypropylene (PP) centrifuge tubes, 15mL-polypropylene (PP) centrifuge tubes and cryovials.
  • Whole Blood:
    • Collect ≥ 1.5 mL. Acceptable containers for whole blood include purple top, light green top and royal blue top blood collection tubes and cryovials.
  • Plasma:
    • Collect ≥ 1.5 mL. Acceptable containers for plasma include purple top, light green top and royal blue top blood collection tubes and cryovials.

Storage/Transport

  • Urine should be stored frozen (-20°C or colder) and shipped with dry ice.
  • Whole blood can be maintained at refrigerated temperature (2-8°C) during transit.
  • Plasma can be maintained at refrigerated temperature (2-8°C) during transit.
