Registering in PDMP FAQ

The PDMP will give you specific information on your patients’ history of filled prescriptions.  By using the PDMP, physicians can reduce duplicative prescribing and overprescribing of controlled substances.​

A prescriber who is a federal employee practicing on federal property is not required to register for the PDMP or to check it before writing a prescription. However, they are eligible to do so, and the Georgia Department of Public Health encourages prescribers to register and use the PDMP for their Georgia patients.

Yes, if you prescribe controlled substances in two states. Here is what the DEA says:

“DEA individual practitioner registrations are based on a state license to practice medicine and prescribe controlled substances. DEA relies on state licensing boards to determine that practitioners are qualified to dispense, prescribe or administer controlled substances and to determine what level of authority practitioners have, that is, what schedules they may dispense, prescribe or administer. State authority to conduct the above-referenced activities only confers rights and privileges within the issuing state; consequently, the DEA registration based on a state license cannot authorize controlled substance dispensing outside the state."

Yes, but only from select states that we do not currently share data with. We are currently allowing prescribers and dispensers licensed in the following states to register in the GA PDMP: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MD, MI, MN, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, OK, OR, PA, RI, SD, UT, VT, WA, WV, WI, and Veteran Affairs prescribers.

Please select the appropriate role, “Out of State Prescriber”, “Out of state Pharmacist”, “VA Prescriber”, or “VA Dispenser.” You must upload a copy of your professional license and driver’s license during the registration process.

Yes. To register, delegates must first create their account at Georgia.pmpaware.net/login. During the registration process delegates must list all supervisors. Their supervisors must log in to approve the delegate under “Delegate Management”. Users must also print, sign, and upload the Prescriber Delegates Responsibility Form. All supervisors must sign the delegate responsibility form. Forms cannot be signed digitally. 

It is the supervisor’s responsibility to manage the delegates on their account. If a delegate is no longer working under the prescriber’s supervision, the supervisor must remove them from their list of delegates under “Delegate Management”. Refer to the Georgia PDMP User Support Manual for instructions on how to do so.

Users without an active DEA number can only register as a prescriber delegate.

You must enter 10 digits to register. Use the number “9999999999” to register if you do not take Medicare, Medicaid or third-party reimbursements.

Failure to comply with the requirements of the law may subject a health care practitioner to discipline by their licensing board. 

When a registration is rejected an email is sent with the reason why it was rejected. After correcting the issues listed, you can create a new account registration.
