Georgia Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a state-based surveillance system, administered by the Georgia Department of Public Health, in collaboration with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Georgia has been part of the system since 1984, gathering information about knowledge, attitudes, and health behaviors, including:

Information collected from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveys is used to:

  • Track trends in behavior change among the population

    • Healthy People 2010

    • Healthy People 2020

  • Determine priority health issues and develop plans to address them

  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions
