OASIS (Online Analytical Statistical Information System): 

Many health indicators produced by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) are found on our web-based OASIS application (http://oasis.state.ga.us).  OASIS provides a variety of health statistics and indicators from vital records, hospital discharge, ER visit, STD, Motor Vehicle Crash and other data, in tabular, mapped, or charted form.  Census-tract level data can be found on the OASIS Mapping Tool.  OASIS also has a Community Health Needs Assessment Dashboard that provides ranked health indicators, trend charts, and tract-level maps.  OASIS has replaced publication of the Vital Statistics Reports.

Geocoding and Geographic Information Systems (GIS): 

OHIP is the Department’s source for standardized geocoding and geocodes addresses for any DPH program. Please contact ohip@dph.ga.gov.  If your Departmental Program requires geocoding, please forward files in Excel, Access, dbf, or text format. The address data in the table must be in the format shown below. If applicable, please include data regarding race, sex, age, and time period as well. Note that P.O. Boxes cannot be geocoded:

Community Health Status Reports and Related Resources:

OHIP provides a variety of publications intermittently.  These and information related to data integration for local health assessment are found on our Reports and Resources page.

PURPOSE

The Office of Health Indicators for Planning (OHIP) leads the population health assessment component of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). The primary purpose of OHIP is to provide valid and reliable local evidence about the health status of the population of Georgia. The evidence of health status and other health related phenomena provided by OHIP helps direct the Department's policies and actions and serve the public at large.

OHIP defines policies and methods for creating analytical health information and maintains a single standard information repository (data warehouse) to support health assessment models, decisions, and policies made by the Department. OHIP's internal operations include:

  • Information quality.
  • Translating raw data into useable information for local health planning.
  • Health statistics.
  • Epidemiological modeling and information mining.
  • Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis.
  • Intelligent information systems that include evidence-based business rules.
  • Web-based distribution of health statistics and business intelligence.

FUNCTIONS

  • Assure valid and reliable health information.
  • Stewardship of Departmental information requirements, standards, and policies.
  • Determine relevant, valid and reliable population health indicators.
  • Distribute relevant health assessment information used to direct Departmental policy and local health planning.
  • Create and maintain a single standard repository (data warehouse) of Departmental information.
