- Currently licensed as medic in good standing (no pending or recent investigations or adverse actions)
- A minimum of 15 years of continuous (uninterrupted) licensure as a medic (at any level) in the state of Georgia prior to the application date
- Time licensed in other states does NOT count towards the 15 years
- Uninterrupted also means that the license would not have lapsed at any point (no late renewals)
Steps:
- Complete the Retirement Affidavit (see below)
- Login to LMS (https://www.mygemsis.org/lms/public/) and click on Applications, then on My Applications
- Look for the Medic Retirement application, and click Apply Now
- Follow the instructions on the application, and be sure to upload your completed affidavit.
- NOTE: If you are also licensed as an EMS Instructor or EMS Instructor/Coordinator, OEMS will also set that license to retired as well - you do not need to submit a separate Instructor Retirement Application. If you are not eligible for retirement of your Instructor or Instructor/Coordinator license, it will be set to surrendered.

EMS License Retirement
Retirement of a license is a voluntary process and allows those with a current medic and/or instructor license to transition the respective license to a "Retired" status instead of allowing the license to "Lapse" after the expiration date. Retiring a medic or instructor license is essentially the same thing as surrendering a license. A medic or instructor license in "Retired" status means that the previous license holder is no longer permitted to hold themselves out as a medic or EMS Instructor or Instructor/Coordinator in the state of Georgia, respectively.
