ATLANTA – Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health, officially opened the new location of two of the agency’s state offices. The Office of EMS and Trauma and the Office of Vital Records have a new home at 1680 Phoenix Boulevard in Clayton County.

Both offices were previously located in a 1940s schoolhouse. The state bought that building for a dollar about 15 years ago. The offices lacked Wi-Fi and cable connectivity and the internet often went out leaving employees and Georgians frustrated.

“After years in an old school building that just wasn’t functional anymore, it was time for an upgrade,” said Fitzgerald. “This new location will allow the offices of Vital Records and EMS and Trauma greater efficiency in serving the people of Georgia.”

Every birth, every death, every marriage, and every divorce in the state of Georgia is recorded by Vital Records. That’s nearly 320,000 events each year. As the state repository, Vital Records is charged with the responsibility of preserving vital records for archival and statistical purposes and for the personal needs of Georgia citizens. 

The Office of EMS and Trauma is responsible for licensing almost 23,000 EMTs and paramedics in Georgia, along with nearly 400 service providers and 33-hundred vehicles. They also provide educational support for licensed personnel.
