EMS Policies, Rules and Regulations

• OEMS-DM-2023-001 – EMS Data Compliance and Reporting Policy
  • The intent of this policy is to specify the requirements for data compliance and reporting for all EMS Agencies currently licensed or seeking licensure by the Department. The new addition made to the policy is specified under sections 5.5-5.7. 
     
• OEMS-VC-2023-001 – EMS ePCR Vendor Compliance Policy
  • The intent of this policy is to specify the requirements, compatibility, and compliance of ePCR vendors for EMS responses from EMS Agencies in Georgia and the mandatory reporting requirements for NEMSIS v3.5 and all future NEMSIS versions. 

The following policies apply to Continuing Education, Medics, Students, Instructors, Instructor Candidates, Initial Education Programs, etc.)

• OEMS-INS-2024-001 - EMS Initial Education Program Designation and Redesignation

  • The intent of this policy is to specify the criteria for the initial and continuing designation and the administration of an EMS Initial Education Program.

• OEMS-INS-2021-001 – Requirements for Instructor-Coordinator Internship Candidates & Preceptors
  • The intent of this policy is to define the requirements necessary for the completion of the internship component needed to apply for an EMS Instructor/Coordinator license and define the requirements for an instructor to serve as an internship preceptor.
     
• OEMS-INS-2021-002 – Recognized EMS Instructor Courses
  • The intent of this policy is to specify recognized instructional techniques and instructional preparation curriculum courses for EMS Instructor and EMS Instructor/Coordinator licensure applicants, respectively.
     
• OEMS-INS-2021-004 – Requirements for Conducting Department Approved EMT Psychomotor Exams
  • The intent of this policy is to create a defined process for requesting and conducting a Department-approved EMT psychomotor exam.
     
• OEMS-CE-2021-001 – EMS Continuing Education
  • The purpose of this policy is to establish minimum standards and guidelines for educational activities that may be used by EMS personnel (Medics, Instructors and ,Instructor Coordinators) to earn continuing education (CE) contact hours toward re-licensure in accordance with DPH Rules. The EMS continuing education should consist of educational activities designed to promote and enrich knowledge, improve skills, and develop attitudes for the enhancement of professional practice, thus improving the quality of emergency medical services provided to the public.

The following policies apply to all medics and students. 

• OEMS-PRO-2023-001 – Capnography For AEMT Policy
  • This policy specifies the required Capnography training for ALL Georgia Licensed Advanced EMTs as well as the requirements for all Designated Initial Education Programs that offer AEMT courses”
     
• OEMS-PRO-2022-001 – Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Policy
  • The intent of this policy is to establish guidelines for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia training for EMS personnel. This education is mandatory pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 31-11-55.2 (C)(1).
     
• OEMS-PRO-102018-002 – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Policy
  • This policy identifies ACLS and CPR/BLS certifications that are recognized by the Office of EMS and Trauma for initial EMS licensure and ongoing EMS licensure.
     
• OEMS-PRO-102018-001 – National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Training Policy
  • This important training will give a multi-disciplinary understanding of the requirements for safe, quick clearance of traffic incident scenes; prompt, reliable and open communication; and motorist and responder safeguards that will help assist our professionals while performing their duties in traffic scenes.

Initial EMS Education Programs:

• All initial EMS education classes starting on or after January 1, 2019, will be required to include this training (online or classroom) as part of successful course completion for their students.
• The student will only need to complete the training once during an initial education course.
