STD FAQs

  • What are some symptoms of STDs?

Many STDs have no signs or symptoms (asymptomatic). Even with no symptoms, however, you can pass the infection to your sex partners. If you think you have or may have been exposed to an STD, here are some symptoms to look for. Click Here

  • Can I go to Urgent Care if I have an STD concern?

Yes, STD testing is painless and usually done at your local urgent care center, and you can generally get results in one to two days. Regular testing is essential even if you don't have symptoms. Some STDs are asymptomatic in the early stages, but it's still possible to pass the disease to someone else.

  • I received an anonymous text/email stating that I may have been exposed to an STD from a previous partner, what should I do? Is this a prank?

Several free partner notification services allow partners to send anonymous text messages or emails to alert their partners that they may have exposed them to an STD. Know that whoever sent this message cared enough about you to tell you so you can get tested and, if needed, get treated.

There are possibilities that your number or email could have been entered in error by entering a wrong digit or letter. Even if you have your doubts, sexually active people should consider testing for STIs at least once a year, so take the opportunity to get tested and set your mind at ease- even if you think you got this message by mistake.

  • Do I have an STD?

It can be tough to say if you have an STD without proper testing because some STDs show very little or no symptoms. If you have had any sexual contact in your life, especially unprotected, but not limited to, you are at risk of being infected with an STD and should be tested.

  • Can I get an STD from Oral Sex?

Yes, a common misconception is that you cannot get an STD from giving or receiving oral intercourse. This misconception is, of course, very untrue. Gonorrhea of the throat, Herpes, and Genital Warts of the mouth can all easily be transmitted when engaging in oral sex acts.

  • Is a UTI (urinary tract infection) an STD?

No, a urinary tract infection (UTI) is not a sexually transmitted disease. Two different things. Many people will experience similar STDs like chlamydia and gonorrhea, such as burning, itching, or pain. These symptoms could be a UTI, but if you've had unprotected sex, you should be tested to rule out an STD because you wouldn't want to mistake a UTI for an STD.
