Designing Roadways for the Aging Population Workshop

This annual workshop is intended for transportation professionals who plan, design, review, recommend, and/or approve transportation projects, as well as operating and maintaining streets and roads. Led by FHWA and DPH, the workshop outlines the physical, perceptual, and cognitive changes that may accompany aging, while presenting key design, program, and operational strategies to improve safety and mobility for aging roadway users. Based on the Federal Highway Administration’s Handbook for Designing Roadways for the Aging Population, the workshop covers recommended practices for highway geometry, operations, and traffic control devices. These practices can make Georgia’s roadways safer for all drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

The workshop is offered free of charge to traffic engineers, municipal planners, and highway safety professionals throughout Georgia. If space allows, out-of-state attendees may be accommodated, to encourage interstate collaboration.
